Soldiers urged to undertake regular physical exercises

Brigadier-General Richard Opoku-Adusei, General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has urged soldiers on the need to make sure they embark on regular physical exercises.

This, he said, was necessary to keep them in perfect shape to effectively perform their duties.

Brigadier-General Opoku-Adusei said these in an address at the opening of this year’s Inter-Garrison Northern Command sports competition at the Fourth Infantry Battalion (4BN) Park in Kumasi.

The five-day competition would see the sportsmen and women compete for honours in football, volley ball, basketball, handball, swimming, athletics and tug-of-war.

It is also meant to assist the Command in the selection of a formidable team to compete at the Army Inter-Formation Sports competition to be held in Accra.

The GOC said he was hopeful that the competition would help to boost unity among the participating Garrisons and therefore urged the sportsmen and women to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition.

In the preliminary round of the soccer event, Fourth Garrison beat Third Garrison 2-1. The volleyball event saw Third Garrison also defeat Sixth Garrison 2-1. Third Garrison went ahead to beat their counterparts from the Fourth Garrison 2-0 in the tug-of-war.**
