JJ, Konadu Rescind Decision

-Of forming a new party, NDP is Stillborn

Just as we had persistently reported the clandestine moves by elements close to the former first family to form the National Democratic Party (NDP) with the blessing of former President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the Al-Hajj can report authoritatively today that the duo have had a change of heart less than 48 hours after the formal announcement of the formation of the party.

Groundswell of pleas from dependable and teeming supporters and admirers of the former first couple, senior citizens of the country, some members of the clergy (of both Moslems and Christians), traditional leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and some former and sitting presidents of foreign friendly countries have touched the heart of former president Rawlings and his wife to rescind their decision not to back the formation of any new party.

The Al-Hajj has gathered that the former first couple could not sleep the day the formal announcement of the party was made as the aforementioned groups kept on prodding them to accept their pleas and back out from the NDP in order to preserve their biggest legacy to Ghana, which is the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Advice upon advice, sermons upon sermons, pleas upon pleas have done the trick and have got the former president and his wife, who are political soul mates to rescind their decision and abandon the idea of formation of a new party.

The Al-Hajj is reliably informed that some friendly foreign presidents in Latin America, North and South America, Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa have intervened vie direct telephone conversations to appeal to the former first couple to change their minds.

Local admirers of the Rawlingses and the NDC in all the ten regions of the country have also done the same with some busting in uncontrolled sobbing in their phone conversations with the former first family, the Al-Hajj can report on authority.

Your most reliable and authoritative Al-Hajj, was first to break the news of the imminent formation of a new political party by the Rawlinges.

The Al-Hajj can confirm that media reports which were later corroborated by the Electoral Commission that, agents of the Rawlingses have indeed applied to register a new political party triggered these pleas and admonishment across the world leading to the decision to abandon the idea.

This latest turn of event, however tough and painful it may be, according to a dependable source close to former president and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings, has come about as a result of the upsurge of pressure from party supporters and wise counseling from local and international prominent and influential elder statesmen and women.

Former president Rawlings, our source disclosed, has all along been kicking against the idea of forming a break away party from the NDC, a party he founded.

“Chairman Rawlings never subscribed to this idea of floating a political party outside his own NDC from day one as Madam and a few of her coteries are pushing for, but he hasn’t been successful, mainly due to the intransigence of Konadu”. The source avers.

The source continued “you see, President Rawlings believes and rightly so, that, his international stature and reputation as well as his position as founder of the NDC will greatly suffer legitimacy should he allow Madam to pursue this unimaginable agenda, hence his strident resolve not to further compromise with the idea of a new party…”

“Already as I speak with you, his (Rawlings) former colleague Heads of State, friends abroad and some friendly organizations he is linked to have begun enquiring of what they are hearing and reading in the international media about the happenings in Ghana, and it’s quite embarrassing, I must confess”. Our source disclosed.

Although our checks so far indicate that the yet-to-be outdoored National Democratic Party (NDP) has begun deployment of logistics, including pick-ups to the regions and constituencies in readiness for the impending campaigning, our source, nevertheless; remains highly convinced and confident the NDP will be still-born.

The Al-Hajj first reported some month back that former President Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu together with the remaining coterie of their FONKAR loyalists across the country will soon outdoor a new political party to be christened the National Democratic Party (NDP)

We stated that credible information reaching us indicate that frenetic preparation is already underway to get the official endorsement of the Electoral Commission (EC) and that, very soon the NDP will be a full-fledge political party. We further reported on the 31st of May 2012 that the much talked-about and long-awaited inauguration of a new political party, the National Democratic Party (NDP) by the nation’s most stubborn political love birds; former president Jerry Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu, scheduled for the 4th of June this year at Aflao has finally been postponed and shifted to Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region at a date yet to be fixed. Stay tuned.
