Society Must Promote Indigenous Adoption And Foster Care

Buona Vita, a non-governmental organisation has revealed that all NGO’s that exist to bring light into the dark world of orphans by creating awareness and engaging people to be a part of the rescue process should be very well encouraged and motivated in order to ensure that orphans and vulnerable children grow up into healthy, productive adults, with their communities empowered and equipped to independently support them as quickly as possible.

According to the NGO, caring for orphans is more than just an initiative or social justice movement; it’s a way of life and as a matter of urgency, such organizations should aim at promoting indigenous adoption and foster care by providing material resources and regular support to such homes and orphanages to supply at least one nutritious meal per day to as many orphans as possible.

This was made known at a short presentation to the Columbus Orphanage at Meduma, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region over the weekend. The donation was made by the NGO with support from Ghanaians living in Italy. The donation seeks to provide the home with adequate support in the care of the inmates in their daily nutritional needs.

Miss Bertha Fosua, managing director of Buona Vita and a 2010 Miss Ghana Italy Runner-Up who donated the items said her outfit is currently working in over three countries, Ghana, Italy and Germany, providing orphans and vulnerable children in her home country, Ghana with nourishing food, water, safe housing, healthcare, education and Christian discipleship through partnerships with both local and international ministries.

The items worth GH ¢ 2,500.00 which comprised bags of rice, sugar, one big gallon of cooking oil, bread, cartons of tinned tomatoes, toiletries and assorted dresses were received by the proprietor of the orphanage, Reverend Bishop Columbus.

She thanked the management of the orphanage for providing a genuine refuge of hope for orphaned, forgotten, vulnerable children and for a community-at-large suffering from harsh poverty and a gross absence of resources.

Reverend Bishop Columbus also expressed their appreciation and utmost sincerity to the organization for coming to their aid.

Columbus Orphanage is located at Meduma, Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital on the Tafo-Pakronoo road and consists of a school and a home. There are about 250 pupils in the school, of whom about 165 are orphans. Some of them stay with foster families while about 50 kids live in the premises of the orphanage. There are three dormitories and a common room that is used for homework and playing. There are about 15 staff currently employed.
