Pioneer Food Cannery recruits 200 new workers

Pioneer Food Cannery (PFC), Ghana’s largest processor and exporter of tuna products has recruited 200 young workers in addition to its existing 1,600 employees to augment its current workforce to boost production capacity and meet its expansion processes and strategic growth.

It said the recruitment follows on-going growth strategy and plans being implemented since last year to meet ever-growing demands for the high quality products made under its strong brands in the UK, France and the Netherlands.

A statement issued by the company in Accra on Friday copied to Ghana News Agency, said Mr. Nichol Elizabeth, General Manager of PFC, stated that PFC products were in demand at abnormal levels because of its timely and reliable delivery of quality products to the market.

It said voted Best Processing Tuna Plant for 2011, PFC’s finished product quality was supported by accreditation's, certifications and the high-level sustainability commitment of the company to the protection of the marine resources.

Mr. Elizabeth pointed out that this was definitely a good sign for Ghana’s tuna industry, considering PFC’s role as the industry leader for the past decade and investing an average of seven to eight million dollars annually on PFC’s expansion and compliance strategy as well as proud Ghanaian heritage.

The PFC currently produces approximately 50,000 tonnes of raw tuna per year with the strong expectation of increasing it to 55,000 tonnes by 2014 and thereby creating another 400-500 jobs in Tema.**
