How Detectives Kicked Against Kumbour

A-G’s credibility crisis deepens

The decision by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Benjamin Kumbuor , to ask for one week before he could tell the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament if the Construction Pioneer’s (CP) transaction with government was international or domestic one has rekindled the doubts some Detective Officers in the Police Service have about the credibility of the man who has been placed at the centre of justice administration in the country.
The appointment of Dr. Benjamin Kumbour as Attorney-General (A-G) and Minister of Justice by President John Evans Atta Mills was strongly criticized by some Detective Officers, who said the decision by the president constituted a great insult to their sense of honesty, integrity and justice.
They indicated that the Tuesday sitting was not the first time the A-G was appearing before PAC and therefore should have been able to tell if the contract was international or domestic, adding that the conduct of Dr. Kumbour had betrayed him as man who is not honest with the nation.
According to them, the position of A-G requires a person of high integrity and not a man who is not honest and could cover up investigations, accusing Dr. Kumbour of not being honest with the people of Ghana when he allegedly lied to the general public that there had been an assassination attempt on his life in a report to the Ghana Police Service.
In 2010, Dr. Kumbour alleged an assassination attempt on his life but declined to give details when journalists made efforts to find out more about the issue, claiming it was under investigation.
But the Front Page sources with among some Detective Officers said investigations into the said assassination had revealed that it was a concocted story by the A-G.
According to a deep throat source within the Detective Officers, reports had shown that Dr. Kumbour’s alleged gunshot was fired from the inside his VW Passat saloon car with registration number GR4656-10 with his own JERICHO 941 PSL 9MM Pistol.
“The reward and payment the Police Administration received from the government for our hard work was the transfer of the person under investigation to the ministry of the Interior as our sector Minister after receiving our report and then to position of A-G”, some concerned Detective Officers said in statement to kick against Dr. Kumbour’s appointment as A-G.
The concerned detectives regretted that the media and the public had not bothered to ask for the report on the so-called assassination attempts on the minister, with government also not making the public know about the truth.
The detective officers said they found it difficult to understand why President Mills should send Dr. Kumbour to the Ministry of Justice, “where it requires more honesty, integrity and justice to guarantee the safety of all Ghanaians which he lacks”.
Speaking to the Front Page newspaper in anonymity, one Detective Officer said they found it very odd when the Dr. Kumbour appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and wanted to show what the committee should do by trying to swerve questions.
