Ho Municipal Assembly prays for peace in Hohoe

Assembly members of Ho Municipal Assembly on Thursday held a prayer session asking God for peace to prevail in Hohoe.

The members sang spiritual songs and asked God to “rain” peace and love on the Volta region.

Mr. Emmanuel Kafui Dzamefe, Assemblyman for Lume Electoral Area initiated the prayer session while the Assembly awaited the arrival of Mr. Isaac Kodobisah, Municipal Chief Executive who was attending a Regional Security meeting concerning the disturbances in Hohoe.

Mr. Dzamefe asked members to continue to pray and preach peace, saying, “We cannot allow our communities and the region to be in flames during our tenure as assembly members.”

Madam Zinatu Amidu, a Government Appointee prayed to God for the forgiveness of sins and asked that peace be restored in Hohoe.

“We do not know what is happening but we are only praying to God to forgive us all our sins and restore peace and smile back in our Region,” she said.

Mr. Atsrim Mathew Mensah, Presiding Member of the assembly, underscored the importance of tolerance for peaceful co-existence.

Mr. Kodobisah said the region was facing some trial times and called for support from the assembly members to reverse the situation.

On development of the Municipal area, he said the launch of the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project in Ho, paved way for practical preparations for the take-off of the project.

Mr. Kodobisah said a total of 34 major roads are being improved.

He said more access roads are being opened in the Ho Township having completed phases one and two of the Regional Street Lighting project covering 42 kilometers.

This has prompted some women and children in the Zongo Community to relocate to Jasikan and Kadjebi leaving the youth behind.

Four people have so far been confirmed dead in the crisis.

The town, which is under heavy security monitoring, is also under dusk to dawn curfew.

The violence started when some youth of the Zongo community found the exhumed body of the local chief Imam at the roadside at the outskirt of the town after his burial on Sunday.

He was reportedly buried in defiance of a ban on the burial of members of the Zongo Community on Gbi land.

The traditional authorities of Gbi imposed the ban after some Zongo youth vandalised the Hohoe Government Hospital and attacked some of its staff accusing them that their negligence had led to the death of their colleague who was sent there to be treated for electrocution last week Wednesday.

Reports say 22-year-old Abdulai Majid was working in the vicinity of the hospital when the incident happened, but staff on duty demanded his National Health Insurance card.

He died before the card arrived.

The Hospital authorities have caused an investigations to establish the cause of death and related issues.**
