Hohoe Municipal Assembly receive motorbikes from MLGRD

Seventy-seven elected and appointed Assembly Members of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly have received Yamaha Better motorbikes, a donation from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).

Dr. Margaret Kweku, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies continue to serve as the fulcrum around which decentralisation is knotted and needed strengthening in all aspects.

She said government’s resolve to enhance the transportation difficulties of members attested to their important roles to the socio-political and economic advancement of the country.

Dr. Kweku said the means of transport demands additional responsibility, hard work and be in constant touch with their constituents to enhance information flow and dissemination of policies, programmes and other interventions.

She said MLGRD was registering the bikes and numbers and crush helmets would be supplied, urging members to refrain from the temptation of using unregistered bikes, which comes with its attendant legal consequences.

Ms Edith Akpoto, Presiding Member of the Assembly, thanked government for the donation saying its gesture would help alleviate the crucial burden of the Assembly members.

She urged members to avoid the temptation of selling the bike but learn how to ride while urging them to be mindful of traffic regulations and be cautious on the road.**
