Ambassador Kanda wins global award

Ken Kanda, Ghana Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations has been awarded this year‘s global award for his outstanding contribution to Global Understanding and World Peace.

The prestigious award which came from the Global Awareness Society International (GASI), a worldwide think tank that seeks to promote awareness of the diversity of culture within the global community was in recognition of Ambassador Kanda ‘s promotion of Ghana‘s image at the United Nations and his excellent diplomatic career.

Dr. Chang Shub Roh, Founder and Chairman of GASI presented the award,made up of a beautiful plaque at the end of the 21st Annual Confab in New York. It was received on his behalf of Ambassador Kanda by Mr. William Awinador Kanyirige,Ghana’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN. At the ceremony, scholarships and awards were also presented to some students and distinguished members of GASI.

Earlier, Professor George Agbango, immediate past president of GASI said that the organization was committed to the promotion of awareness on the diversity of cultures within the global country.

It was also committed to the ”understanding of the political, economic social demographic, technological and environmental issues among members of the global country.” Dr. Agbango, Senior Professor of political science at the Bloomsburg University said GASI, whose membership includes both academic ,non-academic based professionals individuals from all over the world provides multiple forums for the exchange of research, knowledge and experiences on people oriented issues related to globalization.

“Promoting global understanding showing mutual respect sharing knowledge and celebrating our diversity of cultures at forums such as this conference are gems for all seasons and all generations “he stated. To this end, Dr. Agbango maintained that “we have a responsibility to make the world a better place for ourselves and our posterity” and lauded the founders of GASI for their vision in its creation. On behalf of the Ambassador, Mr. Kanyirige thanked the think tank for the honour, saying that it would spur Mr. Kanda and his officers to do more in their task of promoting global peace.

Papers presented during the three day conference included “Globalization’s influence on migration, social, justice and education”, “Globalization: focus on Middle East and Africa”, “Preservation of Local Culture in the Face of globalization” and “Challenges for the United Nations and the World.”
