Stanbic Bank gives SWAG GH¢5,000

Stanbic Bank Ghana has presented a cheque of GH¢5,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards the organisation of the 37th Awards Night.

The Awards Gala will take place on Saturday, June 9 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Public Affairs of the Stanbic Bank Ghana who presented the cheque to executives of the Association in Accra on Tuesday, said the gesture confirms his outfit's commitment to the event that rewards sportsmen and women for their efforts.

He lauded SWAG for sustaining the event which he described as one of the most prestigious in the country.

Ackah Anthony, SWAG President, commended the financial institution for the kind gesture, which he said will play a vital role in the organization of a memorable event.

Over 25 sportsmen and women drawn from several sporting disciplines will receive trophies, medals and certificates among others for their efforts in the year 2011.

The topmost award, ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ has Andre Dede Ayew, Ajara Mohammed and Harrison Afful as competitors, with Andre Ayew, Emmanuel Agyeman Badu and Harrison Afful also vying for the 'Footballer of the Year Award'.

The Awards Gala Night will be graced by Mr Gianni Merlo, President of the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS), Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Clement Kofi Humado and other high profile sports personalities and dignitaries, both locally and abroad.**
