Rival Chiefs Clash...Several Injured

Several people are reported injured in a chieftaincy conflict at Adjina near Akosombo in the Eastern region. Rival royal families have been fighting over who is the legitimate chief of the area.

Eyewitnesses say supporters of a destooled Chief attacked the palace of the current chief amidst indiscriminate shooting.The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital. Traditional leaders in the area have told XYZ News that the police are doing nothing about maintaining peace in the area.

A resident of the area speaking to XYZ News said the chieftaincy problem has been solved at the Traditional Council but the side that lost has since refused to allow their rivals to rule in peace.

Meanwhile, the Police Commander for Akosombo, DSP Reginald Osei has denied claims by the traditional council that the police have not been proactive.

DSP Osei said his men have been to the village to restore calm.

He added that the chieftaincy problem has been there for a while and the police have played their part in ensuring peace in the area.
