SIC MD Sacked

…Workers Hail Board’s Decision

The leadership and entire workers of the STATE INSURANCE COMPANY (SIC) have denied media publications that there is tension between the board and the workers because of the decision to sack the Managing Director, Mr. Benjamin Acolatse.

The staff indicated that they are not associated with any media publication that suggests they are not happy with the board.

Sources close to the staff revealed that the workers are very happy with the board’s action describing it as long overdue because the former MD’s managerial and leadership style was affecting worker moral and output. They accused the departed MD of creating poor working relationship with brokers and agents, which affected productivity, flouted the Board’s decisions with impunity and operated a divide and rule leadership.

In a release, the Leadership of the SIC Workers Unions (Local Union, PMSU, SSA and Managers Association) disclosed that there is NO tension at SIC because everything is moving on smoothly.

“The staff is not against the Board of Directors and re-assure and re-affirm the workers' support for the Board and Management of the Company,” the release stated.

According to the statement, leaders of the SIC Union have appeared on some radio networks to expose the erroneous impression being created by the unfortunate publication.

They noted, “Our ultimate aim is to protect and promote the company’s esteemed image.

The leaders, the statement asserted, would continue to work in harmony with the board and management to uplift the fortunes of the company.

The workers are reportedly also grateful to the board and welcome the appointment of Mrs. Doris Awo Nkani, deputy MD, technical as the Acting MD as good news.

With over 28 years experience in the industry, workers say they cannot wait for her to be appointed as the substantive MD.

A lawyer and chartered insurer by profession with varied experience in various fields, Mrs. Nkani has held various positions in the company. She was the former head of marketing, legal and former Managing Director of Phoenix insurance.

“SIC is a public listed company and we hope that Media Houses that are called upon to do publications about the company will authenticate the story and identify any persons behind such publications,” the statement said.”
