GYM withdraws corruption case against Nana Konadu, Woyome others

The Generational Youth Movement (GYM) has withdrawn all cases it filed with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) against some government appointees.

According to the group, it has lost confidence in the commission’s ability to conduct fair investigations in the July 2010 petition to CHRAJ over the renovation of the residence of the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings with state funds.

Another case involves the disbursement of state funds to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

The group also wanted the commission to investigate the roles that was played by President Mills, his Chief of Staff, Martey Newman and former Attorney General, Betty Mould-Iddrisu in the disbursement of state funds to Mr. Woyome which has been described as fraudulent.

Spokesperson for the Generational Youth Movement, Kwame Karikari Bondzie in an interview with RADIO XYZ 93.1 FM said they are frustrated with the snail pace with which CHRAJ is handling the case.

“Unfortunately the only correspondent we have had form CHRAJ is only an acknowledgment letter and after that we have not heard from them. We have visited the office on more than eight occasions.” Mr. Karikari Bondzie said.

He added that “we decided just over the weekend that we have lost trust in the way and matter CHRAJ is handling the case so upon the advice of our board and our legal advisors we decided to withdraw it, so we can repackage it for some other institution that will be very serious”.**
