It was Asante Kotokoâ??s responsibility to pay Schmidtâ??s taxes â?? Rain

The legal representative for former Asante Kotoko head coach Hans Dieter Schmidt, Dr Koachim Rain has informed the club that it was its responsibility to cover any taxes owed by Schmidt.

Asante Kotoko’s lawyer Kwame Boafo has sent a letter stumbled upon by Kumasi based radio station FOX FM, informing Rain of the letter received from Ghana Revenue Authority regarding taxes on the money owed Schmidt and stating that, ‘Our advice is that MR.SCHMIDT SUBMIT his tax returns as is obliged of my client by law to ensure that his taxes are paid.’

In Dr. Rain’s response, also stumbled upon by FOX FM, Asante Kotoko was reminded that Schmidt was entitled to a net, not gross salary of $7500 monthly.

‘Notwithstanding the results of their enquiries,i would like to draw your attention to the fact that clause 4A of the employment contract between our clients stipulated that my client shall be entitled to a net income of $7,500.’

Dr. Rain also reminded Asante Kotoko that according to the contract, the club has to cover the cost of any taxes due, adding that the club should fully comply with the decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

‘According to it, your client had to cover those taxes, if any. In reference to the salary arrears and to the amount granted by CAS, please take notice and fully comply with the CAS decision. Two installments adding up to 31,880.39 euros, which is approximately $42,000, have been received so far.’
