Press Conference By Joy2012

Held At International Press Centre On April 23, 2012

Mr. Chairman, Kelvin Nii Tachi, CEO KE-Clean and Royal from Teiko Tsuru we of the Ga Royal Stool, the press corps, ladies and gentlemen. Good Afternoon.

The Role and Significance Of The Media

I’ve respectfully invited the press corps both the print and electronic media, this afternoon, at this venue, International Press Centre Accra, purposely as the next President of Ghana (JOY2012) to reason with you on how we can work together to find out how we can best apply the rule of law to safeguard our lives and properties.

This venue has strategically been chosen to serve as a reminder to the media that the international community will be critically assessing your role towards the upcoming election Given the disturbing incidents we have been witnessing lately the office of JOY2012 believes that the role of the media Within the socio-political processes is of great fundamental significance.

Security of The Electorate- Paramount

Ladies and Gentlemen, should we as Ghanaians continue to work towards election 2012, without any clear assurance of the security of our lives and properties, or is the idea of voting for people to assume power more important than our lives? JOY2012 demands an answer through the media from the Electoral Commission and Prof. Evans Atta-Mills, the President and Commander in-Chief of the Ghana Armed forces and the government!

The current socio-political outlook towards December2012 election makes the cautionary words of Frederick Douglas, an American Reformer and statesman, more appropriate that “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe”.

Many are those who ask- Has our justice system not become pervasively selective and perceptively corrupt? Has poverty not enforced on Ghanaians that we are ready to sell our professional and ethical values for a morsel of porridge of intellectual dishonesty? Have ignorance and dishonesty not led some to die for unreasonable course of the NDC and NPP? Have successive governments of the NDC and NPP during this fourth Republican constitution not operated in the winner-takes-all syndrome to make society feel oppressed, robbed and degraded? Does that not remind you of former president Rawlings proverbial characterization; “Ataa Ayi and Greedy Bastards?

The Press Corps, compatriots, ladies and gentlemen, on one hand, if your answers to what Frederick Douglas opined as applied to the aforementioned questions are True, then we must realize how close we are to destroying our lives and properties for the excessive passions to retain power at all cost by the NDC and to win power at all cost by the NPP. On the other hand, if your answer to the above questions is false, then, please, take a deeper introspection of your mind and heart if you are not directly benefiting from corruption, then you are indirectly involved in the organized conspiracy in oppressing, robbing and degrading Ghanaians. If you are with the media, then one is tempted to believe that you are among the rented media houses, as Hon. Martin Amidu alluded to. The rented press, is like a car that can be manipulated or a tool. The rented presses’power to reason objectively has ben taken away and replaced with some form of robotic controlled remotely by a paymasters. JOY2012 believes that, the press corps gathered here today are ready to discuss and propagate ideas and issues, professionally to help secure our lives for authentic co-existence.

Democracy- National Security Threats

The true and deep meaning of democracy is rooted only in the African Setswana language of Botswana, “ntwa kgolo ke ya molomo” which means “the highest form of war is Dialogue”. JOY2012 therefore defines democracy as “the war of ideas with weapons of the rule of law”.

Ghana’s democracy is singing dirges, wailing at the executive desk of President Mills’ government, at the legislative corridors of our 230 elected honourable MPs and at the Judiciary, at the desk of the chief Justice, her Lordship Georgina Wood. Mother Ghana is crying dearly for true leadership. She continually cries for her children who have sadly become defeatist in their mindsets and enslaved their minds sadistically to the NDC and NPP political machines as innocent sheep being sent to the abattoir to be slaughtered at the altar of December 2012 election.

JOY2012 says to you today that Ghana needs a great awakening of conscientious and pragmatic war of ideas on how the Electoral Commission can organise free and fair, technology-based biometric election in December 2012, with prudent application of the rule of law as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution for President Mills’ government to outline security measures to assure the safety of the electorate.

The unprecedented violence associated with the current biometric registration cannot allow JOY2012 to either condemn or praise Hon. Kennedy Agyapong hypocritically without addressing responsible leadership in the country. At worst Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has not been efficient in his speech but has been very effective in using negative reinforcement to diffuse the latent violent energy being built and counter perpetrated by the NDC and NPP political parties and their supporters at the peril of the electorate undertaking their civil responsibility. How the law handles the situation is another case study subject to the prudent application of the law. JOY2012 believes that COMMON SENSE must prevail in handling the situation in the context of security intelligence.

However, the case of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is a symptom of inadequate or bad leadership by the government, the NDC political leader Prof. Evans Atta-Mills and the NPP political party leader Nana Akuffo-Addo. It is time we voted the NDC and NPP out to prevent either political party from forming the next government. If anyone has ever read, the book written by the astute security expert, K. B. Quantson entitled “Ghana; National Security, the Dilemma”, one cannot help but infer that the government of the NDC, Prof. Evans Atta-Mills, the President and Leader of the NDC political party and Nana Akuffo Addo the leader of the NPP political party, are collectively a bold red font security threat to Ghanaians.

Had it not been ignorance that prevails in the country, how can the NDC government have the effrontery to contest for a second term in office without expeditiously getting to the bottom of the Woyomegate saga? How can the NPP party assures Ghanaians that given the chance they will not sell such strategic great assets of the nation such as Ghana Telecoms cheaply for a morsel of porridge to foreigners? The discerning machomen who have understood the ‘political sakawa” have decided to abandon the NDC and NPP and to pursue a noble agenda in seeking to protect the environment by forming an association called “Machomen for Good and Justice”, a neutral body and one of the miracle of light in the 2012 election glowing in the valley of darkness of evil perpetrated against Ghanaians.

JOY2012 To Join Forces With Political Parties legally To Deal With Threats

The Press Corps, JOY2012 in collaboration with strong allies from the UFP, CPP, PPP, IPP, PNC, GCPP and indeed subtle supporters from the good elements of the NPP and NDC
political parties, compatriot traditional leaders and true religious leaders and civil societies are pleading with the government, EC, NDC and NPP. They are pleading for them to fully assure Ghanaians of their lives and properties before, during and after December 2012 election. Any legal means will be used to ensure peaceful election 2012.

JOY2012 seeks to help in his own small way to deepen our democracy and become a trailblazer in using the rule of law to stop the social disorganization associated with the current voter registration exercise and possibly the election itself.

Mr. Chairman, the press corps, ladies and gentlemen, there are lots of dynamics and flexibility that the biometric voter register can allow us to explore for a more civilised and responsible voting exercise. Especially, how can we regulate and improve voting for national government and local government? We need to redefine our constitutional belief in the light of the following constitutional Articles and clauses and in the context of the biometric voter register.

1. The principle of Universal Adult Suffrage
2. The Rule of Law
3. Article 13 clause 1
4. Article 21 clause 1(g)
5. Article 35

What each of the clauses says has not been defined or described fully the keenness for all us to further educate ourselves as to how we can use the powers in the constitution to make democracy work in Ghana.

Election 2012 And Biometric Voter Register Flexibility

Ladies and Gentlemen, JOY2012, your next President, is strongly advocating for the EC to extend the voter registration to 1st November, 2012 as citizens turn 18years every day. The verification of the biometric register can electronically facilitate the incorporation of new voters, even voters turning 18 years the day before election can even register if all polling stations can be looped to the central database of the voter register.

Transit Voters who may not be at their locality can however be allowed to exercise their franchise on presidential election anywhere in the country as it is expected that all polling stations must have the database of the central national voter register. However, the subject of transit voters influencing local government in other areas calls for a careful national debate.

Mr. Chairman, the Press Corps, Ladies and Gentlemen, the “unrented” media can lead the debate to let Ghanaians begin to provide answers as to why we should vote for the NDC and NPP knowing that by subjecting our will to either of them can lead to our own destruction, just like what recently happened in the Ivory Coast? WE SHOULD VOTE THE NDC OUT AND PREVENT THE NPP FROM COMING IN. PERIOD!

JOY2012 7 Point Plan

Let me give you the JOY2012 7 point plan:

1. JOY2012 believes the creation of a second upper chamber of Parliament comprising of his constituency which is made up of the business community, traditional leaders, religious leaders, representatives of students and recognised professional institutions.
2. JOY2012 believes in focusing on the Informal and Traditional sectors of our economy with a deliberate policy to create Industry giants and millions
3. JOY2012 believes in empowering women economically and supporting business innovation starting from the youth.
4. JOY2012 believes the only alternative to the political party system is the Independent presidential System which has the potential of forming a national unity government and eliminating the winner-takes-all syndrome and destructive tendencies of businesses by perceived supporters of the opponents’ political party.
5. JOY2012 intends to establish commissions to work on Education and Health policies that governments have to follow through their implementation.
6. JOY2012 will use ICT to fight corruption and ensure timely payments by contractors.
7. Full decentralization shall be implemented at the onset by JOY2012 government with all security agencies voting to elect their superiors

Mr. Chairman, the Press Corps, JOY2012 has lots of good policies for a “working Ghana agenda (WGA)” to establish the foundation for the emerging Ghana but cannot compromise on the security threats posed by leadership. The current political environment does not allow for politics as usual but a sense of urgency for Ghanaians to sacrifice our comfort zones to defend our freedom.

JOY2012 hopes that Ghanaians will rise to the occasion discerningly and responsibly to ensure a peaceful transparent election to the admiration of the world.

Once again thank you one and all.
