Minister Fights Kwaku Baako

Last Saturday’s edition of Joy and Multi TV’s Newsfile programme was marred by near fisticuffs between New Crusading Guide’s Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr and Kobby Acheampong, the notorious Deputy Minister of Interior of “kokoaase” infamy.

Kobby Acheampong, who has gained notoriety for fighting studios, this time took it to the Multimedia studios and verbally assaulted the New Crusading Guide Editor in Chief, using mostly unprintable words against him.

Kobby described Baako as ‘stupid fools, faggot, street drunkard’ in full glare of studio panelists after the show host had taken them off air.

The host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, thought it wise to break the programme when tempers were flaring to allow them to cool down but that was when the worst happened as the deputy Minster allegedly threw caution to the wind and blasted the journalist ‘well well’.

Although most of the abrasive segments were off air, they were recorded by the TV cameras, perhaps for the records by the station. Some listeners were able to tell that something was amiss as a result of the unusual break in the curse of the programme.

The two panelists, as the programme progressed, digressed into the trading of the insults, when Kobby allegedly challenged the intellectual capacity of Mr. Baako, a comment that the newspaper editor did not take kindly to.

This situation informed the host to break so perhaps tempers could cool down; unfortunately the objective could not be achieved as each of them became more aggressive off air.

Although the exchange persisted, it appeared Kweku Baako thought it wise to allow his co-panelist to continue an eventual one-way insulting spree.

The whole incident started when Kweku Baako asked Kobby Acheampong to allow him to continue his submission since, according to him, when he (Acheampng) was making his submission, he (Baako) did not interrupt him.

That was when the insults began and the eventual intervention of the host.

After the interruption by the host, the second phase saw a continuation of the bad blood as Kwaku Baako, incensed by the insult from his co-panelist, retorted by describing Kobby as a wife beater. Kobby could not stand it and fired back “you stupid fool, faggot, street drunkard”.

Kweku Baako allegedly went back to the wife-beating subject which appeared to be so distasteful to his co-panelist that anytime he veered towards it, the reaction was fierce.

According to Kweku, Kobby’s spouse had been seeing lawyers about her plight at the hands of her husband.

Mr. Baako threatened to put out the allegation in the public for all Ghanaians to know the deputy Minister’s character and Kobby hit back, “You traitor. You are a traitor like your father. Hopeless drunkard.” Fierce exchanges like the above are not new on the airwaves, especially with Kobby Acheampong.

Kobby, noted for his acerbic tongue and inappropriate language on air, had a nasty brawl with Shamima Muslim on a Metro TV morning programme during which he spewed nasty words on the lady.

So abrasive were his words that the lady fought back, describing him as a gay, the second time the deputy minister had earned the unpalatable nomenclature.

In a previous episode, he raised the adrenalin level of Frances Asiam when he described her in unprintable words, compelling the lady to fire back, borrowing the description of Ms. Muslim.

His attack on NPP’s General Secretary when he called him a rustic man who needed to broaden his horizon having left Kumasi for Accra, incensed the people of Kumasi and indeed rural Ghana.

Although he tried to do some damage control, it appeared to have failed.

Many would be wondering where Kobby Acheampong had been all this while after suffering a public outrage when he caused the arrest of some policemen on the Cape Coat to Accra road for allegedly mis-conducting themselves.

Efforts by Peacefmonline.com to reach any of the parties involved to confirm or deny the story has proved futile.
