RE: Akuse Chiefs Protest EC Decision

To Exclude Akuse In Biometric Registration

April 10, 2012, Odumase-Krobo: Our attention has been drawn to a news item published on Thursday April 5, 2012 on your page which seeks to erroneously place Akuse under the Dangme West District with Nene Teye Titriku I as the chief of the area.

The news item which originated from a press conference held in Accra by a section of traditional leaders from the Osudoku Traditional Area led by Nene Teye Titriku I is a deliberate attempt to set an agenda and influence the decisions of the Supreme Court as it prepares to give its final verdict on the Akuse boundary dispute come June 13. What they also seek to do is to whip up sentiment in the people of Akuse over their temporary exemption from the ongoing Biometric Registration by the Electoral Commission in wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the boundary dispute.

We wish to state without reservation that there is no chief at Akuse by name Nene Teye Titriku I. The said Nene Titriku is only a development chief from the Osodoku Traditional Area, and an imposter as far as Akuse is concerned. Even though there have been series of attempts to cede Akuse to Dangme West- sometimes with political interference- the latest of which started in December 2010 culminating in a legal battle still pending determination at the Supreme Court- none of these attempts have succeeded so far, hence Akuse remains part of Lower Manya Krobo District in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region and not Danmge West in the Greater Accra Region as Nene Titriku and co seem to portray.

Akuse has a legitimate Chief in the person of Nene Asada Ahor I who has been ruling since the year 2000 and succeeding three (3) successive Akuse Chiefs who have ruled without any rivalry since 1896. They are Nene Matey Paul (1896-1927), Nene W. A. T Sackitey (1929-1980) and Nene Sackitey Asare (1981-2000) who was immediately succeeded by Nene Ahor I in the same year after his demise.
It is wondrous therefore to see Nene Titriku, a sub chief of Osudoku jump out of his traditional area into a different jurisdiction and arrogate to himself the position of Chief of Akuse premised on his flawed argument – as carried in the press statement- that the said electoral areas are mainly inhabited by Osu’s and not Krobos. Granted the people of Osudoku are in the majority by way of settlement in the said Electoral Area, that does not make them owners of the land; there exist such scenarios (of settlers outnumbering indigenes in a particular community) across the country.

Nene Ahor I said, “I have no problem with Nene Titriku in his capacity as the Development Chief of Osudoku, but I do with his self-styled position as Chief of Akuse and he is advised to stop parading himself as such to the chagrin of the Krobos. I will not countenance his mischievous acts of inciting the people of Akuse any longer, neither will the entire Krobo State do”.

Director of Communications of Kloma Gbi, Henking Adjase-Kodjo said “We advise the EC to- in the interest of peace and the credibility of the numerous activities in the lead up to the December election- act in the best of ways. EC should consider going to educate the residents about the reason for the temporary suspension of the exercise”.
