Yendi municipal electoral commission registers 22,000 voters in 10 days

For the phase of the Biometric Voter registration exercise in the Yendi and Mion constituencies, the Electoral Commission has registered 22,000 voters in 35 registration centers in the Yendi Municipality of Northern Region.

During the first 10 days of the registration, there were some technical problems with the printing machines but the Commission’s technical team were able to fix them.

The Yendi Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. John Mensah announced this when he briefed members of the Yendi Municipal Inter Party Dialogue Committee.

He advised the party agents to be vigilant and ensure that minors and foreigners did not register in order not to create shortage of registration materials and create conflict during the December 2012 polls.

The Yendi Municipal NCCE Director, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi, said that reports reaching the Inter Party Dialogue Committee indicated that there had been registration of minors, which was a worry to the members.

The Yendi Deputy Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Jimah Yakubu expressed concern about the low publicity on the registration exercise.

Mr. Jimah who is also the vice chairman of the Inter – Party Dialogue Committee, called on all qualified applicants to cooperate with the Electoral Commission during the rest of the 30days for the Municipality to have a successful registration exercise.

He indicated that, due to the lack of publicity some of the applicants had moved to other registration centres outside their localities to register, creating pressure on the registration offices.**
