Keeper Agyei powers Liberty to next round of FA Cup

Goalkeeper Daniel Agyei powered Liberty Professionals to beat Medeama SC 3-1 on penalties in their FA Cup clash on Wednesday at the Sly Tetteh Stadium, Dansoman.

Agyei saved Karim Abubakar’s kick whilst Louis Agyemang and Daniel Ocran blasted wide from the spot to hand the homers victory in the Round of 16 clash.

The 22-year old shot stopper once again proved that his performance with the Black Satellites class of 2009 who won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt after beating Brazil on penalties was no fluke, rather confirming his specialty at spot kicks.

The match ended barren during normal time with both sides having their fair share of the opportunities.

For Liberty, their best chance came the way of Francis Morton in the closing stages of the first half, but he lobbed wide with only the Medeama goalie Muntari Tagoe to beat from Atta Kusi's cross from the right flank.

The second half remained a balanced affair with both coaches bringing on fresh limbs in their quest to break the deadlock.

On 89 minutes, Liberty were dealt a major blow as midfielder Isaac Sackey was sent off for his second yellow card after tripping Agyemang on the counter.

On the stroke of full time, Medeama forward Hans Kwoffie let his side down after fumbling in the Liberty penalty area following a swift combination between Agyeman and Akwei Polo, forcing the game into the penalty shoot-out.

During the shoot-out, Latif Salifu, Agyei and Tuffuor Frimpong scored for Liberty whilst Kwabena Adusei was the only Medeama player to score from the spot. Agyemang, Ocran and Abubakar all failed to score.**
