Akuffo -Addo’s Wife “Storms” KNUST

The wife of Nana Akuffo Addo, has expressed her dislike about the politics of insults that is rife in the country and thinks it is disheartening and a major disincentive for the many brilliant young women who may have considered politics as a career option.
Mrs Rebecca Akuffo-Addo made this known on Sunday March 18, 2012 at the Annual Women Forum organized by the Tertiary Confederacy of NPP (TESCON-KNUST) on the theme “The Role of the Modern Woman In Politics” at the KNUST.
In the guest speaker’s address, she said “her fear is that the more society gives free oxygen to dirty politics that seeks to destroy reputations, the less good people especially women, will find politics a career worth pursuing”.
Mrs. Akuffo- Addo said even though she is not a professional politician, and do enjoy her work as a florist and her charity work for the elimination of malaria, she would be the first to advocate for more women in politics and the need for more women around the table of decision- making.
According to Mrs. Akuffo- Addo, “if Ghanaians would like to see more women in politics, then more women should be groomed as leaders and also allow more girls to prepare and see themselves as potential leaders”.
She also took the opportunity to appeal to women who have made it in politics to be proactive in mentoring others and advised them to set good examples.
She encouraged young women to be knowledgeable, confident and eloquent in order to be able to make informed decisions about issues and offer solutions.
The NPP stalwart also admitted that even though she isn’t a supporter of the 31st December coup, she has a soft spot for former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
“I must say that, as a woman, I admire and respect the boldness and perseverance of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawllings.”
