Bantama wins Methodist Gala Championship

The Bantama Circuit Methodist Church Football team beat Amakom Circuit branch of the church 3-0 in the finals to emerge winners of the Methodist Gala Championship played at the Wesley College Park in Kumasi.

They received a trophy and cash prize of 100 Ghana Cedis, while Amakom Circuit took home 50 Ghana Cedis as their prize for placing second.

Bantama Circuit scored all the three goals in the first half of the uncompromising encounter courtesy Paa Kwesi, Martin Oduro-Brenya and John Jeff Agyemang in the 11th, 16th and 21st minutes, respectively.

Enroute to the finals, Bantama Circuit beat Kwadaso Circuit 4-2 in the semi-final to meet Amakom who drew a bye in the balloting.

The winners, who were led in attack by Ernest Boateng, a former player of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, mounted pressure on Amakom right from the beginning of the match and managed to score all the three goals in the first half.

In the second half, Amakom resorted to a defensive strategy and kept at bay the marauding Bantama Circuit attack to end the match.

The competition formed part of activities marking the 27th Anniversary of the Kumasi Diocese of the Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowships.**
