Do more to raise academic performance - Bishop Asante

The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has urged the management and staff of the church’s educational institutions to do more to raise academic performance.

He said they should work hard and with passion to build on the strong foundations laid over the years.

Most Rev Prof Asante said the institutions had and continue to turn out qualified professionals spread across all sectors of the economy and said they should not lower the standards.

He said the policy of the church is to produce students, who are God-fearing, disciplined, hard working, efficient and law abiding.

This was contained in a speech read for him at the induction of Mrs Aretha Addai, the new Director of the Kwadaso Methodist Women’s Vocational Training Centre in Kumasi.

The centre has been training unemployed young women in hairdressing, dressmaking, home economics and other trades and it had over the years been administered by Management Committees.

Mrs Addai, 40, is the first Director to be appointed by the church to run the school.

Most Rev Prof Asante advised her to see to it that they combine academic work with good moral and religious training.

She should also establish effective rapport with the staff to foster unity and industrial peace. **
