Parliament to rise on March 22

Mr Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader, on Friday announced on the floor of Parliament that the business committee had proposed that the House rose on Thursday, March 22, instead of Wednesday, March 21.

He said this recommendation was to enable the House to dispose of its business.

Mr Avoka said it was because the House did not sit for sometime due to the 55th Independence anniversary celebrations.

He noted the House would sit in Committee of the whole to receive Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, March 13, to appraise members on the upcoming Biometric Voters' Registration exercise to be held throughout the country starting March 24.

Mr Avoka said the Ministry of Tourism was organising an excursion for members to visit Nzulezo and other places of interest in the Western Region from Friday, March 16 to Sunday March 18, and interested members should register their names.

Meanwhile, two credit agreements totaling 82,202,835.10 Euros were presented.

The first, a COFACE Buyer Credit Agreement between Ghana Grid Company Limited with the Government as guarantor and Societe General for 34,054,465.08 Euros to finance the Substation Reliability Enhancement Project.

The second is 48,148,370.02 Euros to finance the Tumu-Han-Wa Transmission Project.

The House also looked at the Veterans Administration, Ghana Bill, 2010 which is at the Consideration Stage.
