Michael Helegbe declared floating player by GFA

Footy-ghana.com can confirm that former Ghana Olympic captain Michael Helegbe has been declared a floating player by the Player Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

According to our well-placed sources, Helegbe had his contract with Liberty Professionals terminated because of the player’s desire to join Asante Kotoko, but he travelled abroad first in search of a foreign deal which did not materialize.

Footy-ghana.com understands that after his return, he applied for floating player status from the GFA and yesterday, following representation by Liberty Professionals team manager Sabahn Quaye that Helegbe had parted ways with the Dansoman-based club, the Player Status Committee declared him a floating player.

Helegbe, who is currently training with Asante Kotoko, can now be registered by the Premier League leaders on special dispensation and should that be done soon, he could be eligible to play for the Porcupine Warriors against Wa All Stars in Kumasi on March 11 2012
