Twenty-five superior police officers have been penciled for marginalization ahead of the 2012 general elections, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.

The officers perceived by the Castle to be sympathetic to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been ordered to be transferred from their current schedules to reduce their leverage on the outcome of the 2012 polls.

This, according to sources, has created uneasy calm at the police headquarters where some of the police chieftains currently head departments.

One of the officers, DCOP/Dr Godfred Asiamah, is about to suffer his fate of losing his command of the Police Hospital simply because he hails from the same part of the country as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and therefore assumed to be sympathetic to the NPP.

DCOP Asiamah, DAILY GUIDE learnt, is yet to understand his intended removal.

It will be recalled that immediately the NDC took over from the NPP, Vice President John Mahama, on several occasions, tried to remove the Medical Director and impose his own kith and kin, who is the Deputy Medical Director, on the hospital. This was however fiercely resisted by staff of the Police Hospital.

The planned transfer, the latest political interference in the operations of the police service, is said to have infuriated the Inspector General of Police for whom it is demoralising and therefore not in his interest for any transfers to take place.

The Chief Constable’s abhorrence to the moves is said to have earned him the wrath of the Chairman of the Police Council, Vice President Mahama.

This development comes on the heels of the recent vexed promotion in the Police Service.

Notable and prominent names on the list include DCOP David Asante-Apeatu, in charge of Police Research, DCOP Frank Adu Poku, in charge of Services, DCOP Patrick Timbilla, Ashanti Regional Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, in charge of Police Legal Department, ACP Fredric Adu Anim, Chief of Staff of Police Headquarters and C/Supt David Agyemang Adjem of the Police Crime Laboratory.

DCOP Asante-Apeatu’s work was said to have thwarted the NDC’s efforts in nailing the NPP over the murder of Ya Na Yakubu Andani and therefore he deserves punishment, according to police insiders. Those against him claim that as head of the CID under the NPP, he covered all cocaine cases which could have been today against them.

According to the pro-NDC elements in the police Service who regularly shuttle between the Castle and the Police headquarters, the same allegations were leveled against DCOP Ken Yeboah who was promoted above his seniors to be the Deputy Director General of CID, in order to assist DCOP Asante-Apeatu to prosecute the NPP agenda.

DCOP Timbilla, currently in the Ashanti Region, was also accused of using police officers to help the NPP rig the 2008 elections whilst he was the Police Operations Director.

Even in the Ashanti Region, the NDC government is still not comfortable.

He has therefore been penciled down for replacement by DCOP Augustine Gyening, Tema Regional Commander.

DCOP Adu Poku is said to be outside the good books of the Vice President who allegedly thinks, by virtue of his position as head of services, he still wields influence as a member of the Headquarters Management Board (HEMAB.)

His crime is that he was Commander of the Presidential Security and eventually promoted to take over from DCOP Asante-Apeatu.

There are rumuors at the Police Headquarters that the Vice President and chairman of the Police Council is championing the replacement of the IGP with the Deputy, IGP Mohammed Alhassan before the end of the year, even before he is due for retirement, a move Ga Adangbes in the service are lacing their boots to fight.

Three weeks ago, DAILY GUIDE learnt the IGP was almost fired for unexplained allegations.

He was subsequently asked to go on leave and emplaned to the United States for medical attention.
