Appiah: Ghana expected tight Tunisia clash

Assistant Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah says Ghana always expected a tight game against Tunisia at 2012 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The Black Stars scored an extra-time goal to edge out the north Africans 2-1 in the quarter-final clash at the Stade de Francville to book a semi-final date with Zambia on Wednesday.

"We all know Tunisia have got a very good team. We had to plan a real tactical game to make sure that we could hold them and at the same time rely on counter attacks to break their defence," the assistant Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah said.

First half goals from John Mensah and Khalifa Sabeur kept the scores at 1-1 in normal time but Ghana eliminated the Carthage Eagles courtesy an extra-time winner through Andre Ayew in the 100th minute.

"We knew very well that it wasn’t going to be an easy a game. So we were not surprised when it went extra-time.

"But the most important thing was making sure that we got to the next stage," Appiah added.

Ghana will play Zambia in Bata, Equatorial Guinea in the last four.
