‘$20 million is not beyond the NDC’

A youth activist and a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has waded into the discussions with regards to the alleged $20million building supposedly being put up by the NDC.

According to him, the NDC won’t be pushed to the corner to respond to the allegations being leveled by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its cohorts including Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG).

Barely a fortnight ago, a pro opposition pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) alleged that the NDC is constructing new party offices at a cost of 20 million dollars at Adabraka, a suburb of Accra which has since been denied by many NDC communicators.
Speaking on Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” programme, Felix Ofosu Kwakye stated categorically that the NDC has no such building at Adabraka and even if they do, “$20million is not beyond the NDC” adding, “if the NPP wants to lie, they should lie in a manner that is believable”.
He said those who call for the General Secretary of the party, Asiedu Nketia known in political parlance as “General Mosquito” to come and confirm whether or not the building belongs to the NDC have no reason to do so. According to him, the NDC Secretary is only accountable to the party and not the NPP or any organization or individual outside the jurisdiction of the NDC.
He said several allegations have been leveled against the flag-bearer of the NPP, Nana Akuffo Addo but he has not found time to come and deny or confirm those allegations and wondered why AFAG has interest in the alleged building supposedly owned by the NDC.
He added that, “in 2008, the NPP spent several amounts of money in their campaign and even made billboards from Accra to Paga and never accounted to anyone and today they are asking the NDC to account for a building that doesn’t even belong to them”.
Mike Ocquaye Jnr, another panel member and member of the opposition NPP insisted the building belongs to the NDC and questioned to know where they got the funding from.
He asked “if the NDC can use $20million to build a party headquarters, why can’t they get the same amount for biometric verification?”
According to him, the NDC should not look at the allegation as a laughing issue but must consider it seriously and explain to the good people of Ghana whether or not the building is theirs, and if it is, they should tell us where they got the funding from. “Aseidu Nketia should come and explain once and for all whether or not the building is theirs. When there is an issue, I know long talks are always lies, so, they should come and explain to us. We need to know”, he added.
