Youth dialogue on 2012 National Budget

A public youth dialogue on the upcoming National Budget for 2012 has ended in Accra with a call on government to “mainstream the youth and issues relating to their welfare into all policies, programmes and government budget by ensuring the full implementation of the National Youth Policy and the passage of the Youth Fund enshrined in the policy.” The program, dubbed Youth and 2012 Budget National Consultative Forum was organized by Youth Bridge Foundation (organizers of the Africa Youth Forum) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, with support from UNDP.

It was held under an Economic Literary Project dubbed “Enhancing Participatory Budgeting for Good Governance”.

In attendance were representatives from the Finance Ministry, Youth groups, civil society and other corporate executives.

At the end of the three day event, a communiqué was issued in which a call was placed to government to, among other things, support the creation of a youth desk; a youth disaggregated budget and regular platforms for the youth to engage policy makers. Click link below for the full communiqué.
