Ousted GOC Executive Board members protest over elections

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – Frank Appiah former Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and nine other candidates who contested for the recent elections to the Executive Board unto the GOC have raised protests over the mode and conduct of the elections describing it as “undemocratic”. A statement signed by Appiah, Ibrahim Issah, Albert N.A. Oku, Emile Missodey, Patience Yeboah, Elizabeth King, Mohamed Sahnoon, Solomon Ofei Darko, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdallah, Johnson Clif Aboagye and Angela Ocran copied to GNA Sports expressed their disagreement over the decision to re- open nominations at the grounds of Congress.
According to the statement, even though Congress was the highest decision making body, it was to vote for candidates who have filed for nominations and not to propose the reopening of nominations.
It said “in the middle of the disagreement, they decided to vacate the grounds of Congress after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Observer and Elections Committee had also vacated and were shocked to hear that, elections were held.
The statement said “we are not part of the elections which was influenced by elements which carried out the failed Congress in June 2009.
“It is a sad day for sports administration in Ghana and we have consulted our lawyers and we shall proceed in due form of law to ensure that rules and regulations of the GOC are complied with”.
