CID arrests dismissed IDEAS University College official

The
Criminal Investigation Division, (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has
arrested Rexy Lovel Mensah, a former official of IDEAS University College, for
fraudulent conducts.
The
arrest was executed on Friday, moments before an “orientation” was to be held
for the students he had hypnotized to his break-away “south campus”.
When
the CID called him and asked for his whereabouts, he responded that he was
driving on the Cape Coast road, when indeed he stood right on the premises of
his “south campus”. Seconds later, the security men struck to his surprise.
Lovel Mensah attempted to escape but the CID proved too smart for him.
The
security men immediately placed him in cells and on Saturday, whisked him away
to the CID headquarters in Accra for interrogation.
The
CID is also hunting for the second accomplice, and Lovel Mensah’s girlfriend,
Madam Victoria Amoah, the Principal of the Tepa Health Assistant Training
School, who is also fraudulently claiming to be a director of the university.
Victoria
Amoah claims she was initially called “Lydia Amoah” and that with a deed of
transfer, she changed her name to Victoria Amoah with effect from April 22,
2011. Interestingly, she has been known as VICTORIA AMOAH for all the period
she had lived and acted as Principal of the Tepa Health Assistant Training
School. The real Lydia Amoah, is the daughter of the school’s proprietress and
a director of the university.
The
question on the lips of members of the public is, was the principal employed
using someone’s certificate?
Rexy
Lovel Mensah was dismissed from the university as its secretary and operations
director when it was detected that he had changed all documents on ownership of
the school into his name and that of his girlfriend, Victoria Amoah. He
thwarted the formation of Students’ Representative Council and denied students
matriculation, which is a crucial ceremony for every university student.
Lovell
Mensah has illegally done a deed of transfer from the Proprietress of the
university, Madam Comfort Adampah into his name and one Kofi Makai.
He
also refused to render accounts for all monies he collected on behalf of the
university from October 2010 to June, 2011. Rexy Lovell Mensah also stole all
text books and computers from the school’s library and computer laboratory
respectively. He again refused to allow an accountant to take charge of the finances
of the school and gave himself the power to do everything in the school. At
appoint in time, when the Proprietress of the university demanded to know the
number of students and lecturers in the school, Rexy Lovel Mensah told her, he
was not aware.
In
another instance, the Proprietress of the university made part payment for a
piece of land for future development to accommodate more students. Before she
realized, Rexy Lovell Mensah had gone to the chiefs who gave the land to the
proprietress and paid the remaining balance in his name. He subsequently
claimed ownership of the said land.
After
convincing himself that the illegal changes he had made could be enough for
him, Rexy Lovel Mensah went ahead to rent an uncompleted building belonging to
a businessman, Tsikata and forced almost the entire students and lectures to
relocate to the fake “South Campus” of the university at Berlin Top. The running
of a university in a rented, uncompleted building, was against the standard
requirements
by the national Accreditation but Lovel Mensah the students that the NAB had
asked him to go ahead even though the Tsikata House had not been inspected and
approved. Even when officials of the National Accreditation Board warned him to
desist from operating an educational institution that is not accredited, he
snubbed the directive.
The
obviously desperate, Lovel Mensah also threatened some students and lecturers
who refused to follow him to his “South Campus”.
Before
his arrest, Rexy Lovel Mensah found ways in the legal system to avoid an
injunction on his operations at the “south campus”. Still bent on carrying on
with his criminal business, he wrote to the Chief Justice, alleging that the
Judges sitting on the matter at the Sunyani Commercial Court, were about to be
bribed and therefore petitioned the Her Ladyship to look into the matter.
With
the arrest of Rexy Lovell Mensah, the fate of the students he took away hangs
in the balance as some of them are finding difficult to return to the main
campus because of the insults they reined on their colleagues who remain at the
main campus and the Proprietress.
