Labour unrests will not affect Single Spine budget - Finance Ministry

Government says the budget for the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy would not be affected despite the ongoing agitations on the labour front.

Medical doctors and graduate teachers have laid down their tools over concerns related to their migration unto the new pay policy.

There are however suggestions that this could put undue pressure on the funds allocated for the policy.

But Prof. Newman Kusi, advisor to the Finance Minister, says government has made adequate provision to avert any such occurrence.

Prof. Kusi said “in any salary structural adjustment people and individuals try to position themselves to make sure that they get the better out of that”, and that government is aware of such issues and will therefore do well to continue the implementation of the policy.

He indicated that appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure that all groups that are moved unto the SSSS are adequately catered for, insisting that government was given four years to ensure the complete migration of all groups unto the new pay policy.
