Preko backs KP Boateng recall

Former Black Star winger Yaw Preko has called for the immediate inclusion of AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng in future Black Star matches.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, has played only three matches for the Black Stars since playing a key role in Ghana’s success at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where his impressive display later secured him a move to the Italian Serie A giants AC Milan.

The 24-year-old's unavailability for recent national team assignments has put his loyalty in doubt. But Yaw Preko, who had 69 caps for the senior national team has reiterated the quality that the German-born player adds to the team and says it is important that he is given another chance with the Black Stars.

"We need Kevin-Prince Boateng. Whatever is between Kevin and the coach must be resolved to allow the lad feature for us. We all saw the confidence and quality that he added to the team when we played in the World Cup in the absence of Chelsea's Michael Essien."

"He's a world class player and if we want to win the African Cup of Nations, we will need our best players and Kevin is one of them' he added, in his interview with Asempa Sports.

Preko, who was a member of the U-17 World Cup winning side in 1991 and played in the U-20 team that reached the final of the 1993 edition before losing to Brazil, also called for the inclusion of Richard Kingson after the former Blackpool keeper was axed from the team that played against Sudan in the penultimate Gabon and Equatorial Guinea AFCON qualifier in Omdurman.

"We haven't tested Kwarasey enough to fully realise his potential and weaknesses. Richard Kingson has kept the posts for quite some time and still has a lot in him.

"We need competition and someone to put Adam Kwarasey on his toes. Looking at the team, Richard Kingson is the most experiences to do that."

"It’s a bit too early to retire Richard Kingson at this stage. We will need him around the team to motivate the boys and serve as a rich source of experience in our quest to win the African Cup of Nations next year," he added.
