Konadu stays grounded after AshGold thrashing

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu is refusing to get carried away by his club's 0-3 thumping of AshantiGold in the Glo Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors turned in a fine performance to easily win what is always one of their toughest tests of the season prompting renewed confidence among their strong following.

It was a performance that will also buy their former striker and now coach Maxwell Konadu some badly needed acceptance from the club's following.

But he has told his players to quickly forget about that performance and focus on picking up more points in their next games.

"I say there will be no way for complacency. We will take our time to play; we cannot and will not underrate any team. I believe that with time, we will play better than we have seen. We have to start from somewhere before we can get to the top.

Konadu is delighted to have started his coaching career in Kumasi in much the same way as his playing career went and is confident with the young players the club will battle for honours this season.

"We have young guys who are ready to learn. They have the energy to perform. We saw their display on the field. It was good.

"I learned something from Coach Arday – which is total football. I believe in that. That is what we have been experiencing. To do that well, you need players who have energy; guys who can play to perfection.

"We wanted history to repeat itself and it happened in a more historic and exciting manner. As a player, I scored for Kotoko to beat Goldfields 1-0 in 1992 in my first match in Kumasi. As a coach I have led the team to win 3-0. I am happy for the supporters because they needed this win."
