Agitated TEWU pinches govt over unfair SSSS treatment

The Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU) is agitated over what it says is government’s discrimination in addressing the fallout in the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Government has promised to pay the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) two months of its 13 accumulated months of arrears next week attracting the fury of TEWU.

The union has described as unfair government’s commitment to pay NAGRAT whilst neglecting the concerns of TEWU.

Union chairman, Peter Lumor told Joy News’ Araba Koomson that TEWU does not understand why their concerns will be relegated to the background – with that of NAGRAT receiving preferential treatment – when the two associations were migrated onto the SSSS the same time.

He said the two associations are part of the Ghana Education Service for which reason TEWU must not be treated differently.

Lumor said they are frustrated by the Labour Commission’s delay in addressing their concerns, only to hear that government is ready to pay NAGRAT two months of the 13 months arrears owed all teachers.

“TEWU is part of Ghana Education Service. TEWU, GNAT and NAGRAT were all migrated on the Single Spine the same time and we are all in education. Why are you singling out GNAT and NAGRAT to pay them two months without TEWU.”

He said government must fairly address its concerns because TEWU does not want to threaten strike.
