Baba coy over GOC continued Presidential role

Accra , Oct 15, GNA - Benson Tongo Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) remains unsure of his continued stay at the helm.

The GOC will go to the polls at its General Assembly scheduled for October 29 in Kumasi and the presidency is one of the positions up for grabs.

Baba, who has headed the GOC for well over a decade told a press conference in Accra on Wednesday that he has yet to firm up his interest on the leadership position.

With the deadline for applications fixed for Wednesday, October 19; the outgoing GOC President has, however, not ruled out a surprise.

“I am eligible to contest. I have not made my decision yet but anything can happen.

“By Wednesday, you will know whether I am a candidate or not,” B.T. Baba said.

The incumbent has categorically denied that he is bent on clinging unto power, and denied any allegations of formulating any form of ‘dictatorial’ electoral procedures.

“Some have called me GOC Mugabe. It is never true that I want to hold unto power.

“The law is clear and I want to ensure the proper thing is done. B.T. Baba will die and GOC will remain.”
