NFF almost canceled Ghana game

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pondered withdrawing the Super Eagles from the international friendly with Ghana's Black Stars on Tuesday, SuperSport.com has learned.

The consideration to withdraw the Super Eagles came up after the team's failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

A number of the NFF top officials was said to have argued that Tuesday's friendly with Ghana is inconsequential after the Super Eagles were held to a 2-2 draw.

They were quickly informed of the implication of failing to honour the friendly game.

However, the football federation on the grounds of avoiding huge financial implication decided to allow the Super Eagles honour the game in London.

The federation's general secretary, Musa Amadu revealed that the football house took into consideration the fact that it had signed a contract with the match agent.

"A contract was signed earlier for this match and I'm sure if not for the London riots earlier this match won't come up now in October. So it is a rescheduled game, and that's why we sent the team to honour it.

"As a federation we are honouring the deal with match agent," Amadu said.

In August, the international friendly between Nigeria and Ghana was shifted following riots in London.
