Cigarette Concealed in Banku

A 22-year-old ex-convict, Nashiru Amadu, who tried smuggling some prohibited substances into a police cell for a suspected criminal, has been nabbed.

The suspect, who claimed to be a welder, is alleged to have concealed a number of tusker king size cigarette sticks in a big ball of banku for one Razak Haruna, a robbery suspect in detention.

On reaching the charge office, personnel on duty took the items but upon serious scrutiny, they detected that some items had been stuffed in the food.

On seeing that his cover might have been blown, the suspect took to his heels and was pursued by the police who arrested him in a local beer bar around the barracks.

He was immediately whisked to the police station and locked up alongside Razak Haruna, the robbery suspect.

Police disclosed to DAILY GUIDE he would be charged for smuggling prohibited items into the cell.

Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has gathered that Nashiru Amadu and his unemployed friend Mohammed Iddrisu, 19, were on bail after they were earlier arrested for robbing some tourists months ago.

According to the police, the suspects were alleged to be harassing some white persons within the city and robbing them of their personal belongings including laptops and cameras.

Security sources told DAILY GUIDE that early this year, they were spotted at about 7pm near Alhassan Hotel, a local guest house, loitering around.

They were reported to have pounced on one Rosa Bardes Font, a Spanish tourist passing by, subjected her to severe beatings and succeeded in bolting with her two expensive cameras, a mobile phone and a cash of GH¢500.

Some Good Samaritans, who were close to the scene and managed to identify some of the suspects, volunteered information to the police who were at the scene in time, leading to the arrest of the two.
