Newmont Selected for Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for fifth year

Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - Newmont Mining Corporation, the parent company of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, has achieved yet another milestone for her selection fo= r the fifth time to the Dow Jones Sustainable World Index ((DJSI World).

The selection makes Newmont the first gold mining company to be selected for

inclusion in the prestigious DJSI World for five consecutive years. The DJSI World includes approximately 300 global companies identified as leaders in

the areas of long-term sustainability, economic, environmental and social performance. A statement by Newmont signed Ms Adiki O. Ayitevie, Director, External Affairs &

Communications, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, in Accra on Monday, explained that

Newmont became the first gold company included in the DJSI World in 2007, and has

also maintained inclusion on the DJSI North America Index since 2006. The statement said in March this year, Newmont Mining Corporation also ranked 93in the

top 50" on Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. It quoted Mr Dave Schummer, Regional Senior Vice President for Africa Operations, as

saying, 93Thanks to the efforts of Newmont Ghana's employees and those f= rom other

Newmont operations around the globe, we can all be proud of this acknowledgment of

Newmont's environmental and social performance." The statement said Newmont's industry leading performance had reflect= ed through

Newmont Ghana's high standards in environmental management, health and safety for its

employees and creating value and opportunity for its host communities and Newmont's

shareholders. It said Newmont Ghana's Ahafo Linkages Program, which 93seeks to integrate local supply content into the company's business, also in 2010 won the Chartere= d Institute of Purchasing and Supply UK's (CIPS) Best Procurement Community and Best Supplier Diversity Project Awards", while the Program Manager, George Brakoh, was named the Best Procurement Male Professional of the Year 2010 for Africa. It explained that the Ahafo Linkages Program focused on building the capacity of local businesses, ensuring the development of a diversified economy outside the mine and sustainably improving the environment for local business development and long term survival.

The statement said Newmont Ghana had recently been voted as a leading company in the fight against HIV and AIDS and Malaria Prevention. Its Workplace HIV and AIDS and Malaria won the best Workplace Control Programme Award of the Global Business Coalition (GBC) on HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

"Our social and environmental performance at our Ahafo Mine and Akyem Project and

similar efforts by Newmont's other global operations have collectively qualified Newmont

for its fifth consecutive inclusion in this sought after World Index," sa= id Mr Schummer. It reiterated Newmont Ghana's commitment to ensuring high environmenta= l practices,

safety measures, and social responsibility as the company strived to be the most valued

and respected mining company through industry leading performance.
