Kukurantumi (E/R), Aug. 20, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills has presented a Police patrol vehicle to the Kukurantumi Police, in the East Akyem district, to enable them to fight crime in the area.

The patrol vehicle was a request made by Nana Daasebre Boamah Darko II, the Omanhene of Kukurantumi, and facilitated by Mr Charles Kofi Wayo, Chairman of the Ghana Energy Commission.

The police in the area had no vehicle to fight illegal lumbering, smuggling and other robbery cases at Kukurantumi, which according to the Omanhene, was very disturbing.

At a ceremony to officially hand over the vehicle, Daasebre Darko II said by the help of Mr Wayo, who had earlier on visited the town, had the chance to personally speak to President Mills and requested for the patrol car.

He said the quick gesture exhibited by President Mills to give out the vehicle showed that he was truly a father and listens to all.

Mr Wayo said the roles of the security forces were very essential to the development of the nation and that the country would not progress without them.

“We see these forces working day and night and at dangerous places, protecting the nation, so it is important they are adequately resourced” he said.

Mr Wayo praised President Mills for being honest and sensitive to the plight of the people of Ghana.

Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, said the gesture shown by the President Mills was in fulfillment of his promise to equip the security forces in the country, to ensure maximum security and peace in every part of Ghana.

He called on residents of the area to rally behind President Mills to bring more development to the area and urged them to support the Omanhene to continue seeking the development of Kukurantumi.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwabena Gyamera Yeboah, Eastern Regional Police Commander, disclosed that all the seven police personnel had been stationed in Kukurantumi due to inadequate accommodation.
