District councils urged to be agents of development

Takoradi, Aug. 11, GNA - A sixty-member Sub-Metropolitan District Councils was on Wednesday inaugurated for the Takoradi and Effia-Kwesimintsim electoral areas respectively with the mandate to speed u= p development.

The District councils are to coordinate and initiate development programmes at the sub-metro level, as part of efforts at deepening the decentralization process.

Captain (Rtd) Anthony Cudjoe, Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), who swore the members in, charged them to be devoted to duty, sine their work was a service to humanity. Captain Cudjoe also urged them to refrain from partisan politics and rather serve their constituent faithfully in order to earn their trust and confidence.

Mr Mohammed Ali, Presiding Member of the STMA, encouraged them to work hard and bring development to their various electoral areas, and also channel issues above them to the STMA for prompt actions". He called on the councillors to take their oath of allegiance seriously, by protecting and defending the constitution of the land, saying that, they must ensure the laws worked, to promote harmony and peaceful co-existence.
