TDCL unhappy with Minister’s lack of concern

Tema, Aug. 10, GNA – The Tema District Council of Labour (TDCL) has expressed its dismay at the Minister of Finance’s inability to address several tax resolutions sent to him by the Council.

The Council said the Minister also failed to acknowledge receipt of the several resolutions on the unfavourable nature of the tax threshold and tax bands on income and salaries for the poor worker.

This was contained in a statement addressed to the Minister and signed by Mr Wilson Agana and Mr Ebenezer Kodwo Taylor, Chairman and Secretary respectively, of the TDCL.

The statement said “with reference to our resolutions sent to you, the Council has noted with utter dismay, the lukewarm approach by you on the concerns raised, you have not bothered to acknowledge receipt, let alone even respect the office of the Secretary-General of the TUC.”

The statement said the inaction of the Minister could create tension and anxiety on the labour front, as the tax threshold and tax bands on income and salaries do not favour the poor worker but rather the privileged people in society.

It said the Council has exercised enough restraint and reserved the right to reconvene to decide on an effective and appropriate action to buttress its concerns.
