Armless-pilot Cox to support Amputee team fund raising

Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – Jessica Cox, the world’s first licensed armless pilot is expected in the country in September to support a fundraising exercise for the national amputee team, the Black Challenge.

The invitation of Cox, 28, is a collaborative effort between the Goodwill Ambassador of the Ghana Amputee Football Federation, (GAFF), Reverend Nii Amartey Adesah and Charlitex Investments to create awareness about the participation of the Black Challenge in the impending Cup of African Nations Amputee Football scheduled for 14-24 October, 2011 in Ghana.

The campaign dubbed “Yibi ma na nya Nhyira”, literally meaning “Give out and be blessed”, will see the Goodwill Ambassador embarking on a nationwide tour to create awareness and raise funds for the national team to ensure their participation in the continental championship.

Reverend Amartey Adesah at a press soiree in Accra on Tuesday, said the campaign fixed for August and September this year forms part of his mandate and goal as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Association.

He said the tour will kick start following its official launch on August 30, which will be attended by the Second Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama at a yet to be confirmed venue.

During the tour which would include officials and members of the amputee team, they will pay courtesy calls on Regional Ministers, Traditional and Religious leaders, Municipal and District Chief Executives and other corporate bodies to support the team.

The Goodwill Ambassador added that the climax of the tour will be a call on President John Evans Atta Mills at the Osu Castle where the Tour Box will be presented to the President.

Meanwhile, the CANAF 2011 will feature 12 teams including Ghana with matches scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium and the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.

The other participating teams are from Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Angola, Rwanda and DR Congo.

Ghana’s Black Challenge were winners of the maiden edition held in Sierra Leone in 2007.
