11 arrested as Police disrupt Volta demo

Police in the Volta Region have disrupted and arrested some irate protestors demonstrating against the continued stay in office of Volta Regional Minister Joseph Amenowode and the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Kotobisa.

The group of NDC supporters were also demonstrating over the delay in the construction of the University of Allied Health Sciences in the Volta region and the completion of the Eastern Corridor road. They called for the immediate resignation of the Regional Minister and the MCE, accusing them of incompetence.

President Mills broke ground for the construction of the University a few months ago but work is yet to commence, despite a promise by government officials that admissions start in September this year.

Citi FM’s Volta Regional correspondent Felix Agbanyo reported that the demonstrators run for dear life when the Police charged on them.

He said the disruption brought an instant end to the demonstration. Felix Agbanyo said that about eleven (11) protestors made up of ten males and a female were arrested.

According to Felix Agbanyo, the main reason for the arrest of the demonstrators is not clear.

The protestors clad in red cloth carried placards with inscriptions such as “Minister humbly resign and go” “the greedy bastards must go now”, "Kotobisa must go" among others.

However, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive in an interview Citi News said the people of the Volta region must not stampede the President and his government into executing the University project when all was not ready.
