Three killed in car crash on the Kumasi-Bibiani road

Three people were killed on Sunday, on the Kumasi-Bibiani highway, when a Mercedes Benz passenger bus on which they were travelling crashed into a tree.

The accident occurred when the driver attempted to avoid a head-on-collision with another vehicle that had veered into his lane.

The deceased, two males and a female, are yet to be identified.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fredrick Mensah, Atwima District Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), who confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the driver, Kwaku Awuah, and six other passengers’ also sustained serious injuries.

They are receiving treatment for deep cuts and broken bones at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

He said they were travelling from Kumasi to Nkawie.

On reaching the outskirts of Afari, a school bus of the Afari modern educational complex suddenly joined the road and as Awuah swerved the vehicle to prevent running into the school bus, he lost control over the wheel, hitting the tree in the process.

The MTTU Commander said the driver of the school bus, Kofi Bronya, has been arrested to assist in investigations.
