Govt has faith in youth, will not fail them - Mills

Accra, July 15, GNA - President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday assured the youth of Ghana that Government has faith in them as future leaders.

He reiterated that under no circumstance would his Administration relent in empowering the youth for the tasks ahead.

He said youth empowerment and employment remained important issues to Government, and that Government would do everything within its power to equip them to realise their ambitions.

President Mills gave the assurance when a delegation from African Capacity Buidling Foundation, led by its Executive Secretary Dr Frannie Leautier paid a courtesy call on him at the Osu Castle in Accra.

President Mills had interacted with Dr Leautier at the last AU Heads of State meeting in Malabo, where Dr Leautier had delivered a paper.

President Mills commended Dr Leautier on the paper, which he described as comprehensive and straight forward.

President Mills was complimented highly by his guest for the foresight in placing issues of the youth high on Ghana’s development agenda.

He said youth empowerment and employment were a ‘sine qua non’ of any nation that was interested in developing its manpower.

The President commended the Foundation on its role in human resource development and added that Government looked forward to teaming up and exchanging views with youth centred bodies to address the needs of the Continent’s future leaders.

Dr Leautier commended Ghana for her leading role in the African cause.

She said her organisation would learn from the example of Ghana in matters concerning the youth.

Other members of the delegation were Dr Coffi Noumon and Dr Korena Hanson, both managers at the Foundation, and Dr Emmmanuel Akwetey of the Institute of Democratic Governance.

Present was Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
