Hearts beat Faisal to sink them into relegation

Kumasi June 5, GNA - Glorious Accra Hearts of Oak played a good game to beat Alhaji Grunsah's King Faisal 2-1 to end the 2010/2011 Glo Premier League match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday to sink Faisal into relegation.

Hearts was the first to draw blood in the 19th minute through Douglas Nkrumah who beat a defender to shoot perfectly pass on-rushing goalkeeper Ibrahim Iddrisu in goal for Faisal against the run of play.

Faisal accepted the challenge and improved on their game and had to equalise in the 32nd minute but Ofosu Mickey allowed that chance to slip away when he mis-timed his shot to let the chance go waste.

The home team, however, managed to get the much needed equalizer a minute later through Joseph Akoto Mensah with a terrific shot which zoomed straight into the net with the Hearts keeper scrambling in vain.

In the second session, both teams improved on their game with substitutions but it was Hearts who had the advantage and took the lead in the 79th minute through substitute Mahatma Otoo who hit the yawning net in a goalmouth melee.

Hearts nearly made it three in the 88th minute but Theophilus Apo's shot hit the goal posts and bounced back into play.

Not even the eight minute of added on time by referee S. V Bortey could help Faisal to save their face as the defence of Hearts stood gallantly and warded off all their attacks till the final whistle to assign Faisal for the first time in its history to the lower division.
