Prez Mills calls on Ghanaians to adopt a maintenance culture

Akyem Akroso, June 03, GNA-President John Evans Atta Mills, has called on Ghanaians, especially students and school heads to adopt a maintenance culture that keep development facilities from early decay. He indicated that proper maintenance of national assets would go a lon= g way to save the nation some money for the execution of other developmental projects and that virtue would at all times make facilities remain useful for longer periods.

President Mills was speaking at Akyem Akroso when addressing students at the Akroso Senior High School to inaugurate a 12-unit girls' dormitory block. He remarked that education was the cornerstone of human development an= d that it was also at the core of the Better Ghana Agenda drive. He advised students and school authorities to maintain the asset so that it would at all times be a useful facility for them and the generation= s after them, adding that, government was aware of their other needs and woul= d soon fulfil promises made. President Mills noted that his government was aware of the need to equip schools with learning facilities for a better future and was committe= d to ensuring that. The Headmistress of the Akroso SHS, Ms Ablata Ansah, said the project had come at the right time and would help ease congestion in the smaller dormitory. She however called on government to construct a boys' dormitory, provide a school bus and a library block for the school. Dr Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, disclosed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had, within just two years, opened 263 schools in the region and therefore called on them to rally behind the government. He pledged to work support the President and the Ministry of Education to, as soon as possible, make Akroso SHS a full-time boarding school.
