Campaign team submits President Mills' nomination forms

Accra, May 30, GNA - The campaign team of President John Evans Atta Mills, who is seeking a second term as flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday submitted his nomination papers to the officials at the party headquarters in Accra. Ms Barbara Asamoah, a member of the Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME), submitted the completed nomination forms on behalf of President Mills to Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, at the party headquarters.

The completed nomination papers were submitted a few moments before President Mills returned from Nigeria where he attended Sunday's inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The completed nomination papers included the names of 468 delegates of the party and their constituencies, profile of President Mills with his photographs and receipt covering the GH¢20,000 filing fees paid into the accounts of the party. President Mills together with former First lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and former Education Minister Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah also collected nomination forms. The deadline for the submission of forms is June 1.

Ms Asamoah said President Mills took his time and went through all the names to make sure that they were duly qualified. Ms Asamoah assured delegates of the party that President Mills' campaign team would run a neat campaign and expressed the conviction that the party would come out united after the July 8-10 congress in Sunyani to ensure a successful 93Better Ghana" programme in the interest of all Ghanaians. As the General Secretary went through the nomination papers, the campaign team sang 93My Lord is Good" and 93Atta Mills Na Double Double= " pointing to the heavens. Mr Asiedu Nketiah said President Mills had accepted to contest the nomination of flag bearer of the party adding that the forms would be verified and vetting would take place on June 7. Mr Asiedu Nketiah stressed the need for a clean campaign, saying that the contest was within the same family. He urged the candidates to be cautious since the kind of campaign they conducted would impact on the electoral fortunes of the party in the 2012 general elections. "The NDC has no option than to unite behind the winner for victory," Mr Asiedu Nketiah said.
