Elder calls for halt to political interference in local governance

Agona Nyakrom(C/R), May 31, GNA - Mr Yaw Adu, a former Director of Passport, has said political influence in local governance would affect the development of rural areas. He said the situation whereby people are posted to the district assemblies to occupy certain positions because of their political affiliation was not the best.

Mr Adu made this known when Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Okofo Katakyi Nyarkoh Eku X, to officially introduce himself as the new MCE for the Municipality. Mr Adu is one of the elders of the Omanhene who received the MCE and his entourage. He said the tendency must change for effective growth and management of the system to ensure the success of the decentralization policy. Mr Adu appealed to political leaders, especially Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, to desist from working with party functionaries alone but those who could deliver. He said 93there is the need to tap the rich experience and expertise of others who are not members of a particular party in power to promote economic of the country." Nana Nyarkoh Eku appealed to the government to establish a Teacher Training College at Nyakrom to absorb graduates from Senior High schools in the area. Mr Tetteht thanked the chiefs in the traditional area for their support.
