Restore peace in NDC, Chiefs urged

Winneba (C/R), April 24, GNA - A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has called on traditional rulers to intervene in the impasse that has engulfed the ruling party. Mr Mintah, who is a founding member of the party, appealed to the National House of Chiefs to appoint a high powered delegation, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, 93to go into the matter".

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba at the weekend, Mr Mintah pointed out that the matter was getting beyond the party's leadership and that new faces should be brought in. He said the ban placed on chiefs from involving in partisan politics by the 1992 Constitution must not scare them from embarking on such a peace initiative.

Mr Mintah pointed out that the impasse was having its toll on the development agenda of the party and the sooner it was resolved, the better it would be for the nation.

"Just like the proverbial two elephants fighting, our development would be suffering," he noted.

He observed that to bring peace into the party, the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings must be told to shed her presidential ambitions for now and the expenses incurred fully paid to her and after that she should be restored to the position she was holding in the party before resigning to contest the primaries. He appealed to members and supporters of the party to stop apportioning blame as that would aggravate the problem rather than solving it.
