Ghost in Ghana Parliament

Investigations conducted by the DAILY POST have unearthed the fact that the NPP MP for Bindiru in Bawku in the Upper East Region is an imposter. The MP, Hon. Stephen Yakubu’s real name is Sampson Armstrong Akudugu, investigations have revealed.

The MP was known by his real name ( Sampson Armstrong Akudugu) throughout his Primary and Secondary school days as well as his days in the University. Born in 1960, he attended Collins Commercial School at Agogo in the Ashanti Region, completing his Ordinary Levels there in 1983. He went on the Navrongo Secondary School, NAVASS, where he had his Sixth form education. Throughout these years, he was known and called Sampson Armstrong Akudugu.

After completing NAVAS, he gained admission to the then University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. While there, he used to travel to the United Kingdom during the holidays to do vacation jobs. In the U.K, he was always hosted by one Stephen Yakubu, a senior nurse at a hospital in London.

In 1986, Stephen Yakubu died and was brought to Ghana and buried. In 1987, Sampson Armstrong Akudugu deferred his course at UST and went in for a four-month short course in Nursing. He later returned to the University to complete his education, graduating with a 2nd Class Lower. DAILY POST investigations unearthed his folio number at UST as 18715. His certificate number after he graduated is 19715 and all were in his name, Sampson Armstrong Akudugu. After completing the university, he approached the late Stephen Yakubu’s family and entered into an agreement with them to use the dead man’s name and certificate to work. In return, he pledged to look after the late Stephen Yakubu’s widow and children. As a result, he changed his name from Sampson Armstrong Akudugu to Stephen Yakubu, swearing an affidavit to this effect. Later, he travelled to the United Kingdom and while there, using the name, certificate and experience of the later Stephen Yakubu, secured a job as a senior Nursing Officer.

Sampson Armstrong Akudugu entered Ghana’s parliament in 2008 still using the dead man’s name and certificate which is obviously a criminal offence. Further investigations also reveal that he has failed to live up to the agreement by abandoning the late Stephen Yakubu’s widow and children to their fate. More Anon
